I read an article that said CEOs with daughters tend to pay women more. Makes sense, right? When you see the world through the eyes of someone you love, fairness stops being theoretical.
So, guys—if you’re wondering how to support women (beyond just saying, “I support women”), here’s a thought: pay attention at home.
If you have a daughter, niece, little sister—watch the world through her eyes. What’s easy for you but full of obstacles for her? What messages is she hearing about what she should do or shouldn’t ask for? What doors open for you that she has to push harder to get through?
And then, do something about it. Teach her to negotiate. Share the household work so she grows up knowing it’s normal. Challenge the “that’s just how things are” moments when you see them.
The truth is, if more men noticed these things earlier, we wouldn’t need them to have daughters to figure it out. But hey, we’ll take the progress however it comes.
